About TEA

Name: The Emeralds’ Awakening (TEA)

Description: A Genesis era retro-inspired Sonic fangame by a small team of gamemakers from Russia.

If you’re an SFGHQ oldbie, you might still remember this…
This game has been in development for a while. We’ve been quiet for the last few years, but this time we decided to make an effort to revitalize the game, make it look pretty and feel modern. We are certain that even Sonic fangaming can be a form of art, and we would like to convey this idea through our project.

The main highlights of our game are the following:

  • Mostly original pixel graphics drawn by team members
  • Original music (all but one track in this demo) – by SteG
  • A harmonious combination of shader effects and pixel art
  • Level design is inspired by retro-futuristic concepts and aesthetics; we value quality over quantity
  • High-speed Sonic gameplay, feels classic and challenging at the same time
  • Our goal is to create a classic Sonic game with a unique, fairytale-like atmosphere and non-clichéd level design

Plot: The protagonist, Roy the Fox, travels to another dimension to escape from the catastrophe that struck his world. On his journey, he meets Sonic and his friends who decide to help him get back and save his world from destruction. To do that, they have to locate and bring together seven Chaos Emeralds that have been scattered around the planet. At the same time, Roy is trying to find answers to questions related to his past, and understand the message given to him in a dream by a mysterious “Destiny Tree” when he was traveling between worlds…
(unfortunately any plot-related assets will not be available in the game this SAGE)

Software: The game was built in Multimedia Fusion 2, based on a customized version of Sonic Worlds engine.

Credits: Damizean, LarkSS and McKAOSU for Sonic Worlds; also, see “Credits” in the demo
